Maha Alavi

Maha Alavi is a Toronto-based industrial designer whose work is a unique blend of philosophy, psychology, and design. Her practice aims to explore context through connection and creation, informed by her prior training in philosophy and psychology. Alavi’s design ethos revolves around careful consideration of materials and shapes, resulting in creations that are both modern and timeless. Her pieces are earthy, timeless, and elegant, keeping perfect balance with themselves and their surroundings. With work featured in AD Germany and IDS, she’s a future design legend in the making.

Alavi is part of a new wave of industrial designers who embrace their heritage through the showcase of cultural crafts and techniques. All her cast metal pieces are proudly manufactured in a family-run foundry in Northern India. Sustainability is a pillar of her designs, with cradle to cradle manufacturing being a core tenet. This means all items are recycled whenever possible, and designed to be recycled at the end of their lifecycle. Her collection includes hardware, accessories, and furniture, each embodying her unique design philosophy. Her new LITHIC Series interprets space in a way that prioritizes a sense of playfulness and curiosity, featuring soft, rounded proportions balanced by harmonious low profiles
