Turnstyle Designs

Handcrafted Hardware · Barnstaple, Devon, England · Est. 1992

Turnstyle Designs was founded in 1992 by Steve Roberts in North Devon, England — starting with sculpted door knobs made in a garden shed. Now a second-generation, family-run business in a purpose-built Barnstaple factory, it crafts luxury door, cabinet and window hardware for high-end residential, commercial and yacht projects — known for its trademarked Amalfine composite, hand-stitched bridle leather and solid hand-patinated brass, and holder of The Queen’s Award for Export.

Amalfine, Brass & Leather

Every handle is built on solid brass, then plated or hand-patinated to create Turnstyle’s diverse finishes. Leather grips are hand-stitched using vegetable-tanned, full-grain bridle leather from a Tuscan tannery, while Amalfine — their proprietary composite — carries its colour and character all the way through the material. Each piece passes through at least eight pairs of hands.

Bradford’s Point of View

Why Bradford loves Turnstyle Designs

We love Turnstyle for the sheer range of its craft — Amalfine, hand-stitched leather and hand-patinated brass, each piece touched by many hands. Their materials bring warmth and originality to a room. It’s a philosophy that feels deeply aligned with our own at Bradford Hardware, where the details are never just details.
